From June 9 to 13, 2025, Uzbekistan was at the center of a series of high-profile international events that attracted numerous Italian companies and institutions to the country. A dynamic week of economic meetings, interregional forums, and bilateral talks, confirming the growing interest in the Uzbek market and the opportunities for cooperation between Italy and Central Asia.
The Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF)
From June 9 to 12, the fourth edition of the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF) took place at the CAEx in Tashkent, a key event for promoting Uzbekistan’s economic potential. The opening session was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in the presence of distinguished Italian guests including Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, and Raffaele Cattaneo, President of the Regional Council.
Once again this year, the Italy-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (CIUZ) took part with its own delegation, led by President Giorgio Veronesi and Executive Vice President Giuseppe Ferrario, along with several member companies. The Forum provided a valuable opportunity to meet with Uzbek counterparts and partners, strengthen existing relations, and identify new areas of collaboration.
Among the key highlights was the participation of President Veronesi as a speaker in the panel “Chemical Industry: Ambitions and Growth of the Chemical Cluster”, focused on the development prospects of Uzbekistan’s chemical sector.
Celebration of Italy’s Republic Day in Tashkent
On Wednesday, June 11, alongside the TIIF, the Embassy of Italy in Uzbekistan hosted a reception in Tashkent to celebrate Italy’s Republic Day. The evening was attended by institutional representatives and members of the Italian business community present in Uzbekistan for the week’s events.
Representing the CIUZ were President Veronesi, Executive Vice President Ferrario, and Tashkent Office Representative Oybek Irgashev. Among the guests of honor were Attilio Fontana and Raffaele Cattaneo, with the Lombardy Region delegation.

Italy-Uzbekistan Interregional Forum in Samarkand
On June 12 and 13, the city of Samarkand hosted the first Interregional Forum between Italy and Uzbekistan, featuring the Lombardy Region and the Samarkand Region as its main protagonists. The Lombardy delegation, led by President Attilio Fontana, Undersecretary for International Relations Raffaele Cattaneo, and Regional Minister for Economic Development Guido Guidesi, included representatives from institutions and companies such as Assolombarda, SEA Milan Airports, Promos Italia, and UCIMU-Sistemi per produrre.
The institutional program opened with a bilateral meeting between President Fontana and the Governor of the Samarkand Region, Adiz Boboyev Muzafarovich, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Topics discussed included industrial modernization, the development of agro-industrial clusters, Italian-Uzbek joint ventures, education, and research.
Alongside the bilateral meeting, a business forum was held, dedicated to meetings between Lombard companies and local entrepreneurs. The CIUZ actively participated in this occasion as well, with its own delegation.
