On July 11th, a Business Forum was held at Palazzo Lombardia in Milan between Regione Lombardia and the Samarkand Region, attended by institutional representatives and economic players from both Italy and Uzbekistan. Particularly significant was the presence of an Uzbek delegation of over 50 company representatives, engaged throughout the week in a rich program of meetings and visits in the Lombard capital.
The event was organized alongside a bilateral meeting between the two Regions and represents an important step in consolidating interregional relations, continuing the path started with the First Samarkand–Lombardia Forum held in Samarkand in June 2025.
CIUZ, together with several of its Members, took part in the meeting with a delegation led by President Veronesi, accompanied by Executive Vice President Ferrario, Textile Industry Advisor Bianchi, Vice President Farci, and Rampini and Mengoni from the Secretariat.
The proceedings were opened by the President of Regione Lombardia, Attilio Fontana, who underlined the positive developments in relations with the Samarkand Region, highlighting in particular the opportunities for cooperation in the textile sector and in the training of nursing personnel to work in Italy.
Subsequently, the Governor of the Samarkand Region, Boboev Adiz Muzafarovich, reiterated his willingness to develop industrial collaborations with foreign partners, enhancing local energy resources and emphasizing the importance of training programs for young Uzbeks in view of future work experiences in Italy. The proposal to activate direct flights between Samarkand and Milan was also put forward, for the benefit of economic and tourist relations.
The Regional Minister for Economic Development, Guido Guidesi, illustrated the areas of greatest potential for strengthening bilateral economic relations, focusing on:
Distribution of Italian agri-food products on the Uzbek market;
Cooperation in the tourism sector;
Internationalization and investments in the textile sector.
The agenda continued with an interesting institutional presentation by Sheroz Sabirov, Deputy Director of the Department of Investments, Industry and Trade of the Samarkand Region, who highlighted the main strengths of the territory, such as the presence of the Urgut Free Economic Zone (FEZ) on the outskirts of the city and a solid chemical and mining industry.
There was then space for speeches by numerous Lombard stakeholders, including Confindustria Lombardia, Confartigianato Lombardia, and Confapi. Finally, CIUZ President Giorgio Veronesi also spoke, presenting the Chamber’s activities in support of economic relations between Italy and Uzbekistan, reaffirming the strong commitment to promoting new collaborations between Italian and Uzbek companies.
